When you’re setting up your store, be sure to spend some time working on your About page.
Having a well-written, interesting About page gives your visitors more confidence in your online store, and can actually encourage them to buy from you.
Your visitors want to know who you are, and why you do what you do. Make sure to include topics such as:
- What is it that sets you apart from other similar stores? How are you different than your competitor(s)?
- Why did you start your business?
- What problem are you solving?
- How are you going to help the customer?

For step-by-step instructions on how to create a page for your Shopify store, click Adding Pages.
- Make sure your About page introduces yourself (and anyone who works with you). It helps to have a photo of you, your staff, your shop area, etc. – anything that helps a visitor relate to your brand. Don’t forget to add a little bit about yourself – a mini-bio is interesting for people to read.
- I think it’s important to write your About page using the same “voice” you use on the rest of your website, in your emails, and on your social media posts. Think about your “voice” – it’s about how you say it, more than what you say. Your “voice” should reflect your personality.
- About pages that have photos, graphics, and/or videos are much more interesting than pages that are all text. When these elements are integrated in a way that makes sense to your About page and enhances your story, they are much more effective than just putting in a few pictures just to have a photo there.
- Include contact information on your About page, so your visitors/customers know how to get in touch with you.
- Include links to your social media pages, even if you have social media links in your footer or other places on your website. Including these links at the bottom of your About page helps visitors focus on the more important content first.
- Make sure your About page is easy to find! Include it in your website navigation menus – either at the top of the page, in a sidebar, or in a footer. It should be really easy to see.
- Keep your About page up to date. There’s nothing worse than old, outdated content! And Google likes “fresh” content.
