Did you know you can change a lot of the default text used in your Shopify store settings by using the Edit Languages menu option? By editing this standard text, you can make your website more personalized by using the words you prefer for your brand. For example, maybe you prefer the “Add to Cart” button on your product page to say “Buy Now” instead.
This quick tip article shows you how to make these changes, and gives you some ideas on changes you might want to make.
First things first… you’ll want to explore the options available in the Edit Languages settings page. Here’s how.
Edit Language Settings:
- From your Shopify Dashboard, click on Online Store
- Click the Actions drop-down button and choose Edit Languages
- Click any of the tabs at the top of that page (for example, General, Blogs, Cart, etc.) and look through each page to make desired changes
TIP: Use the “search translations” box to search for the text you want to change – this is a much quicker way to find what you are looking for.
- Click the Save button when you are done
For more detailed information about these pages, click Change Text In Your Store for the Shopify Help Page.
As you can see by paging through all these settings, there are lots of possibilities for you to make changes. Choose the text that works best for you and your branding, and see the tips below for a couple ideas on using these settings.
Here are some ideas of things you could change on your website to give your customers more information about their order.
- International Customers – Change the standard text that appears next to the Checkout button in your shopping cart to let your customers know about any custom fees. For example, your note could read “Shipping, taxes, and discounts will be calculated at checkout. International buyers are responsible for any additional tax, duties, and custom fees charged by their country.”
- Processing Time – Change the standard text that appears on the checkout page to let customers know about your processing times. For example, your note could read “Shipping Method (time in transit shown are estimates and do not include processing times)”.
- Customize Your 404 Page – If a visitor lands on a broken link on your website, they will see a 404 error page. You can change the standard text for your 404 page to make it a little bit more customized, for example, adding a little bit of humor or text that matches your brand.
- Edit Add to Cart Button – You can customize the text on your Add to Cart button to personalize that button. For example, change the text to “Add to Bag” or “Buy Now”.
