GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION (GDPR)

Just a heads-up....

The European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect on May 25, 2018. This regulation fundamentally changes how companies use and process the personal data of European users. For an introduction to the GDPR, see the GDPR overview in this link.

This link also includes links to more information and on how this will affect your Shopify store.

Shopify will provide more information as they continue working on this for us.

In summary, it means the EU nations have a new privacy law regarding consumer privacy and that these customers need to know the exact information you save from their private information when they do business with you.

The rules will apply for any seller in the EU, or to any seller that sells to EU customers.

Shopify is working on modifying the terms and conditions and privacy information that we use for our shops so that we are in compliance. Once they have that done, they will let us know.

At that point, we will just have to update our policies (which will be very simple if you are using the canned Shopify terms and conditions and privacy statement).

3rd party apps will also have to comply - so those apps will be responsible for updating their apps so users using those apps will also be in compliance.

I am very impressed with your English @viyoli! I wish I could speak another language as well as you can!

SHOPIFY GENERATED PRIVACY POLICY

The Shopify generated sample Privacy Policy has been updated to cover the latest rules and regulations in privacy, including the GDPR.

If you have not updated your Privacy Policy yet, you may want to take a look at the new generated sample that Shopify provides. You can do this by going to Settings > Checkout and then scroll down to the Privacy Policy area. Click on Generate Sample Privacy Policy.

TIP: Before you click to generate a new sample, I recommend you first copy and save the existing Privacy Policy you have (copy it and paste it into a word processor document so you can save it). By doing this, you can compare the existing policy with the newly generated policy to see if you have any changes you want to make.
